The most important things at a glance

Name: Laura Gessler

Age: 31 years

Position at parcelLab: Head of Human Resources & Talent Acquisition

Origin: Munich

1. briefly tell us what your daily work routine at parcelLab is like?

On an ordinary working day, I sift through applications, interact with candidates, conduct (telephone) interviews, search for suitable candidates for open positions and am available as a contact person for all personnel-related questions of our team. At parcelLab, however, every day rarely looks the same.

2. What does your professional career look like?

After completing my dual studies and gaining initial practical experience in HR work at LH Munich and in recruiting at BMW, it was clear to me that my heart beats for HR. I started my career at the Boston Consulting Group, where I initially worked in Career Development. As I had the desire to develop further within HR, I eventually took on a role as Recruiting Coordinator and was responsible for recruiting IT consultants within CEMA. After the birth of my children and the associated parental leave, I came across the parcelLab vacancy and saw it as the ideal opportunity to develop myself in a generalist HR role.

3. What do you like most about parcelLab and your job?

The variety of tasks and that you get the opportunity and confidence to learn new topics and grow into a role.

4. What do you think makes parcelLab unique?

The people who work here and the cohesion in the team. Everyone helps everyone else, even if something doesn't fall within their own area of responsibility.

5. What are the characteristics of the perfect parcelLab applicant?

There are a few very essential and important qualities: motivation, ambition, humour, independence, creativity.

6. How would you describe the working atmosphere at parcelLab?

The atmosphere at parcelLab is always friendly, collegial and respectful.

7. What has been your favourite moment at parcelLab so far? And why?

I don't have a single favourite moment. There are many nice, small moments that I am happy about - it can be positive feedback from applicants or colleagues, the success when we were able to win a good candidate for us or simply a lunch together in the team.

8. What qualities and strengths have you gained during your time at parcelLab?

During my time at parcelLab so far, I have gained an incredibly broad insight into HR topics from A-Z, which you certainly don't get in many companies. To completely rebuild processes and structures together with our founders not only develops you professionally, but also personally.

9. What challenges did you already have to face during your time at parcelLab and how did you master them?

Some of them, but even in stressful situations or when faced with bigger challenges, I always keep calm and get an overview first. In most cases, this forms a good basic framework. After that, you can calmly go about solving the problem.

10. What makes Munich so attractive to you?

The proximity to the mountains, the diverse range of leisure activities, a good mix of tradition & modernity, lots of greenery & water in the middle of the city. What more could you want?

11. How would you spend your perfect weekend?

With my husband and our children in the mountains. Hiking in the summer, skiing in the winter - with good food and a visit to the pool or spa.

12. What three words would your colleagues use to describe you?

I would say: empathetic, reliable & helpful.
