We’re delighted to announce that we’ve been featured in the top 50 retail tech start-ups operating globally, according to a new report published by RWRC – home of Retail Week and World Retail Congress.
What is the Discovery 50 report?
RWRC sought to ‘discover’ the top retail tech start-ups from across the globe that are working with retailers to offer disruptive solutions to transform their businesses. When the report was originally announced in November, times were very different for retailers. As the pandemic continues to change the way the world shops forever, leaders are having to embrace digital change rapidly, whilst also ensuring their operations staff are healthy and safe.
RWRC could have postponed the report due to coronavirus, but they believe now is exactly the time that retailers need to open themselves up to new and different ways of thinking.
Looking to the future
Whilst investing in new tech may be the last thing of retailers’ minds right now, the industry does need to take a moment to reflect and look forward. The pandemic will end and retailers need to plan for the future. Discovery 50 highlights how start-ups can help retailers seize new opportunities and overcome existing challenges.

Many retailers are yet to realise the potential of working with a start-up to innovate their operations. Perhaps more so than ever, retailers need to be thinking outside of the box on how they can stand out and create the best customer experiences.

We’re delighted to have been included in the ‘top picks’ in the report. These are the top 10 businesses that the judges think have the potential to transform retail.
Whilst store-based businesses are struggling in the current crisis, GlobalData believe Covid-19 will have a long-term positive effect on the e-commerce sector. The judges acknowledged that with this new customer base now moving online, customer experience is extremely important. E-commerce retailers can be using this time to create loyal customers and to promote marketing and messaging more productively, not via their website or checkouts, but via their post-purchase communications (emails and delivery updates).
