Name: Sherine El-Tarahony

Age: 29 years

Position at parcelLab: Client Partnership Manager

Origin: Alexandria, Egypt

1. Briefly tell us what your usual working day at parcelLab is like?

Every day is a new day full of fun, challenges and learning. I'm usually in our office in London around 9am. The first thing I do every day is have my tea or coffee. Every now and then I also treat myself to cookies if I'm not giving up sugar . After that, I start my day by checking my emails, taking calls and meeting with clients or partners. I also manage all UK and international events. However, this requires me to be super prepared in managing and organizing each event.

2. What does your professional career look like?

I have a background in textile technology. After completing my bachelor's and master's degrees, I worked in sales, account management and marketing at various startups selling either hardware or software products. Then, at the end of 2018, I started as the first employee at parcelLab in our London office. The combination of my textile technical background and sales experience has allowed me to build a solid career that I am very proud of today.

3. What do you like most about parcelLab and your job?

My job is so varied and I really appreciate the flexibility. I also get to talk to very interesting top retailers from all over the world. In addition, I love working with the parcelLab team: We work hard, continuously share our knowledge and have a lot of fun together. It is really a great environment.

4. What do you think makes parcelLab unique?

The employees are the company's biggest and most important asset. In addition, the transparency of the founders in sharing information with the team is a big plus.

5. What are the characteristics of the perfect parcelLab applicant?

Someone who is eager to grow and collaborate with others. We are looking for people who are self-motivated, independent and share the values of the company.

6. How would you describe the working atmosphere at parcelLab?

The working atmosphere at parcelLab is very positive and we always have fun together. Being a start-up is a great challenge - and there are always exciting things to do.

7. What has been your favorite moment at parcelLab so far? And why?

Being the first employee parcelLab hired in the London office, I have experienced many wonderful moments. However, these two memories are the most significant:

  1. When Tom, Angus and then Katharine (2nd, 3rd and 4th employees in London) started at parcelLab, we started to build a real team in London.
  2. When we started doing business with very large retailers in the UK. That gave me a lot of confidence that our product would be successful and that it would do as well in the UK market as it did in Germany.
.

8. What qualities and strengths have you been able to add during your time at parcelLab?

When I joined parcelLab, I was given the freedom to make big decisions, which boosted my confidence and ability to take on more responsibility. I also learned that selling is more about listening to our customers and providing them with real value than making them product experts.

9. What challenges have you already had to face during your time at parcelLab and how did you overcome them?

My first months in London were challenging, but the team in Munich was very supportive and visited me from time to time. I was still very happy when my dear colleagues in the London office joined me last January.

10. What makes London so attractive to you?

London is a very exciting city and there is always something going on. I moved here when I got married. My husband works in an exciting startup environment himself, which allows us to share a lot. Also, London is a place of diversity and different cultures, which allows us to make friends from all over the world.

11. How would you spend your perfect weekend?

I would say the perfect weekend would be a weekend with my husband, exploring new places, meeting up with friends and cooking delicious food.

12. What three terms would your colleagues use to describe you?

Cheerful, energetic and bubbly !
