1. Briefly tell us what your everyday working life at parcelLab looks like

I like to go to the gym before work everyday so I usually get to the office around 9:45am. Once I arrive, I grab a coffee from the barista downstairs and drink my breakfast smoothie at my desk.

After that each day is very different. I manage parcelLab’s UK content and PR so it’s a variety of writing blogs and website content, liaising and creating content with our external PR agency, scheduling social media posts, planning campaigns and conducting research for our studies and writing them. As well as this, I also support the sales team wherever needed on campaigns and events.

2. Tell us about your professional career

I studied Psychology at Northumbria University, focusing on consumer and human behaviour, as I knew I wanted to go into marketing after I graduated. My third-year dissertation was on whether there are gender differences in materialism (hint: there is!) and how brands should adapt their marketing and sales strategy as a result.

After I graduated, I stayed in Newcastle for a year and a half to save money to go travelling. During this time, I worked at an antique jewellery and silverware business called AC Silver. Here I realised that content marketing was the avenue I wanted to go down in my career.

After travelling in South and Central America for 5 months, I moved to London. I worked at one of London’s biggest estate agents, first in their front office managing the day-to-day running and local marketing, and then as a PR and Content Marketing Coordinator. At the same time as this I did some freelance writing for a local website, reviewing restaurants. In January 2019, I joined parcelLab as Content and Marketing Manager, and the rest, as they say, is history!

3. What do you like most about parcelLab and your job?

With my previous job being quite corporate, I like that I am given the responsibility to shape the parcelLab UK’s content marketing strategy in the way I think is best. I also love that there are open lines of communication between the founders and the employees; this breeds a really creative atmosphere.

4. In your opinion, what makes parcelLab unique?

The culture at parcelLab is like nothing I’ve ever experienced. Everyone understands the job they need to do to make the business grow and succeed, but the atmosphere remains upbeat and creative. It’s very rare to find this in a business with over 60 people!

In addition, I love that our product is actually changing online retail for the better. To be able to make customer’s experiences more enjoyable is something that really excites me, as someone who likes to shop online ALOT.

5. What are the characteristics of the perfect parcelLab candidate?

The perfect candidate should be self-motivated, a team player and happy to muck in whenever they’re needed. There’s no such thing as ‘that isn’t my job’ at parcelLab – we all help each other wherever necessary. Keeping our fun and upbeat culture is massively important to us so the perfect candidate should be happy to get involved in all the fun and games at parcelLab.

6. How would you describe the working atmosphere at parcelLab?

The atmosphere at parcelLab is hardworking yet fun and relaxed. We all get on really well and really care about how each person is doing.

7. What was your favourite moment at parcelLab so far? And why?

There’s been so many great memories at parcelLab that it’s hard to choose just one. Signing our first client in the UK was pretty special as it was confirmation that we are selling a product that can really change the customer’s experience. We’ve also had some great parties in the last year, but Oktoberfest was definitely a highlight for me. It’s quite rare for us Brits to experience the festival in the residents area and this is definitely the best way!

8. What qualities and strengths have you gained during your time at parcelLab?

parcelLab has helped me shape myself into a much more confident person that I was previously. Not only do you have complete ownership of your role and success, but you are also given the opportunity to push yourself outside of your comfort zone. This for me was agreeing to present at events. Standing in front of 100 people and speaking is something that I would never have agreed to previously but I’m so glad that Conor encouraged me to do so.

9. What challenges have you had to face during your time at parcelLab and how did you overcome them?

When I first joined the UK team, it was just the four of us in a tiny internal office in Moorgate (3 x sales and 1 x marketing). With no country manager, we really had to motivate ourselves to work hard and make parcelLab succeed. This was a massive difference from my previous role so took some adjustment at first. However, I now know that this style of working suits me much better and allows me to flourish creatively. It also made us much closer as a team and bridged the gap that sometimes exists between sales and marketing team. This collaboration has continued as we’ve grown.

10. What makes London so attractive for you?

I’m from a small town in Lincolnshire so I love that London can still have that village feel. I live in Clapham Common and the fact that I have the park on my doorstep makes me feel like I am in the countryside still. Plus, the majority of my best friends live here so it really feels like a home from home.

I am a massive foodie so the rich culture that London offers is really exciting to me. I love that I could eat at a different restaurant everyday for a year and not even touch the surface of London’s great cuisines. I also love the variety of gyms and fitness classes that London has, but my F45 Tooting studio is my favourite (I never shut up about it )!

11. How would you spend your perfect weekend?

My ideal weekend would be seeing friends or family for dinner, drinks or a fun activity like bowling, mixed with some proper relaxation and a couple of gym classes. There’s nothing better than a Sunday chill with my flatmate watching a new series or Friends on repeat.

I also love to escape London and see new places, whether that be visiting my parents on their canal boat or exploring a new European city.

12. What three words would your colleagues use to describe you?

Obsessed with F45!
